The Wish
By Keya Gupta
Woke up this morning
Wishing I was someone else,
Someone who received more adoring.
Just hope that jokes weren't made at my expense
Don't want brains like the greats!
Don't want wealth like the kings!
Don't want myself to be the bait.
I want to accept myself, no strings
Don't want to be a superhero
And curse myself over millions
Of things, everyone wants to be the hero
In their story, but I am the villain
This life demands perfection.
I wish I could be one
Who fits into each fraction.
Wish I could be less insecure.
Don't want to compare myself
With those who are flawless outside.
Only to realize they too hate themself
In the same cruel ride.
I woke up the next morning,
Only my wish had changed.
I wished to end this cycle
And to love me once again.
