The Winter
By Medhansh Karthik Nair
As the snow
white and pale,
stretches wide
across every dale.
Letting the lake
around it freeze,
few stay outside
to enjoy the breeze.
As the wolves
still howl,
and the mountain
lions still growl,
prowling among
the cold birch trees.
A squirrel’s den while
stashed with nuts,
still stays warmer
than a couple of huts.
No matter how heavy
turns out the storm,
the owl still glides
searching for insects
and worm.
While the birds migrate
to a tropical cove,
the bears hibernate
inside a dark cave.
As the sun now shines
bright in the sky,
wakes up and whines
light the husky.
As its days of
sledding had now
been ending,
wiping that little grin
off its snout.
As winter’s time
there had come
to an end,
it clears out
to a place unknown.
