The Wicked Performance

How long can you hide?

How long will you stay behind that cracked mask?

Just playing pretend everyday,

Not wanting to be a burden,

Not wanting to be a waste of resources,

But how long can this wicked performance last?

Dancing like a court jester,

Just to return empty handed,

Shattering your own soul, again and again,

Neglecting everything,

Not because of want,

Because of deprivation

Deprived of the basic needs,

Not having 2 loving arms to hold you, to comfort you

How long will this wicked act last?

You can't for perform forever,

Maybe One day,

The soul shattering act will come to an end,

Where we can finally breathe the fresh air of freedom,

Maybe One day,

We will break the chains that once kept us captive,

Maybe One day,

I will live as myself......

A poignant poem about masking pain, emotional deprivation, and the fragile hope of eventual self-liberation.
