The Weight of Always

By Aadharshini D S

Your love made me a beggar

Made me beg for your time,

Made me beg for your replies,

Made me beg for your attention.

I am just a girl -

Who always needed to be treated the way I once was,

Who always needed the words you affirmed,

Who always longed for the love you poured,

Who always wanted your presence around,

Who always... always... always... begged.

I begged in silence, in whispers, in cries,

In unsent messages in sleepless nights.

I begged in the spaces between your words,

In the coldness of your fading touch.

Finally, your love made me a lover -

who now even begs for love.
