The Weight of a Name

A name is just a sound people say,

but it can stick to you anyway.

If they say it enough times,

it starts to feel like it’s true.

They called me “brave,” so I tried to be strong.

They called me “weak,” and I felt like I was wrong.

It’s weird how words can get inside your head

and make you believe things that aren’t even said.

But I’m learning something new each day-

a name is not who I have to stay.

I can choose what I believe is me,

and grow into who I want to be.
