The Weighing Goodbyes
By Preetham Halwi
I kept my laptop humming, working in the air,
Waiting for news, a checkup to share,
Aware of the story, my sibling then said,
“Leave now, give space to what lies ahead.
”The one, the person, do you hear this tale?
A story of hearts where emotions set sail,
I ran with haste, no time left to waste,
In my father’s car, I quickened my pace.
I reached the doorstep, the moment was near,
A home filled with sorrow, a presence unclear,
I tried to be strong, to hold what I could,
But tears found their way, as feelings would.
She was leaving, oh, leaving the past,
Across distant lands, to journeys that last,
Yeah, I felt that a glance full of love,
Leaving behind moments we shared,
Leaving what once felt tender and cared.
The smiles, the stories, the paths we had known,
The laughter, the quiet, the seeds we had sown,
The future, the choices, the things left unsaid,
All slowly departing, like words we’d once spread.
With one final gesture, neither harsh nor cold,
My woman left, the chapter closed, a story untold,
The distance grew wide, but life carries on,
A change in direction, as new days are drawn.
