The Warmth of the Void

I was riding my bicycle on the roadside when suddenly a loud horn blared from behind. Frantically, I spun around, just in time to notice a car barreling down the road. The black car quickly filled my vision, the screeching tires deafened my ears, leaving a trail of burnt marks on the road as the horrified driver slammed onto his brakes. I opened my mouth to scream but no sound escaped and unconsciously, my legs began pedaling faster. However, it was already too late.

A sudden impact came in contact with my bicycle wheel, sending my bicycle flying. My sweaty palms tore free from the handlebars. I reeled backwards, the runaway car passing merely inches below me along with my bicycle. My legs slammed into the windshield, throwing me forward as I rolled sideways off. Before I could register any more, I landed on the hard concrete heavily with a loud thud, a sharp stab of pain jolting through my spine.

I choked and a gurgle escaped my lips, and I tasted blood in my mouth. Somehow, I managed to stay conscious, but my eyes were struggling to remain open. I was paralyzed, my arms and legs refused to obey me. I was in pain everywhere. A suffocating heat spread through my chest, as if my lungs were filled with molten lead. I refused to submit to death. My vision drifted around, from the azure sky to random trees and to the modern skyscrapers towering above me.

My gaze landed on a peach-colored school, while déjà vu hit me. It looked familiar, but millions of incoherent thoughts were occupying my mind. The wind was whipping violently at my hair and clothes, urging me to not give in to death and stand up. However, my vision was almost completely blurry and unfocused, crimson seeping in, gradually blocking everything. Every sound meant nothing but pure chaos that was playing with my consciousness that was slowly fading away.

Blurry silhouettes cut through the sunlight above me. There were muffled voices all around me, accompanied by the wail of a distant siren. My head ached severely, and I felt myself at the edge of slipping under. It felt as if I was drowning, and my lungs were suffocating. I rasped for breath but choked on air. My limbs were already numb and soaked in my pool of blood. Slowly, as I relaxed my eyelids, I sensed a familiar presence nearby, its panicked voice growing louder as it called my name.

Despite losing my grip of reality, a wave of tenderness washed over me as I felt the familiar figure frantically pulling me into their arms. This was the very warmth I have spent years searching and longing for. I couldn't see their face, but I knew the hands that were holding me firmly against their chest. It was only a pity I could not look into this same pair of eyes anymore. I smiled as I fell into the void, a train of darkness rushing into my vision, welcoming me to the afterlife.
