The Voice of My Mistakes

My biggest enemy was him,

The man I couldn’t find.

The man that would cut me down,

While he watched from the sidelines.

He made sure i stayed sub par,

A sliver of the potential I once had.

He tortured me for weeks,

He made me believe all the compliments were a fad.

I couldn’t save myself from his clutches,

He was always at the horizon,

Judging my every move,

Making my very being seem like a sin.

My biggest enemy was myself,

The man inside my head.

He made believe I wasn’t good enough,

That I would be better off dead.

There was no type of solace,

No warmth in his voice,

After all, how could the voice of

 Your mistakes ever sound nice?

He’s still watching

Making me feel so insecure,

But his presence seems more comforting,

Maybe I can finally accept that I’ll never be alone.
