The Underwater Lyric

By Kavya Mehta

As I pluck the strings of my guitar,

It crumbles in my hands.

Broken and shattered- just like my glass heart.

Or as I write a poem,

The paper burns up or the ink spills.

Wetting the paper,

Just like how the tears roll down my face.

The cries of my guitar,

The words of my poems,

Whisper a message similar.

Trapped inside a coffin,

Buried deep in the ocean.

Screaming as the water brushes my lungs,

Yet nobody seems to be near.

As my guitar screams,

As my words speak loud,

My voice seems too frail.

Nobody will hear-

The song of my heart

And the cries of my mind.10.
