The Trap

By Dhritika Deka

Behind closed doors I found a tie,

Unknown to others, yet deep in its guise.

Outside, she shows kindness,

But the truth was something which is yet to reveal.

How long could I stay in a one-sided bond,

A connection that rose only in times of need!

A bond that didn’t cared of my presence,

And lacked the meaning I thought it had, indeed.

A trap built on the facade of relation,

That flaunt only when strangers around.

A bond where mocking down was amusement,

And undeserved remarks became a common sound.

A bond where seeking greatness at my expense,

Was the ultimate goal, the selfish intent.

And any objection to this charade of hers branded me selfish, causing dissent.

When cracks appeared, she switched her side,

Proving our bond meant nothing at all.

The trust I had was twisted,

Used to arm my enemies, leaving me frayed.

The truth is out now, the trap is gone,

I’m no longer tied to something so fake,

I’m free to live for my own sake.
