The Thieves

By Jiana Shah

Stolen childhoods

seeped through the gaps of our heart.

How we wished for life

only after we grew up.

Running from the peak of our lives

and then chasing it back.

Trying so hard to grasp it

that our youth slipped right through our fingers.

We are the thieves

thieves of our youth

of ourselves.

We stole our innocence,

only to let ourselves go

once we retrieve it.
