The State Of My Being
By Raashid Naqib
But life is supposed to be
so much more than this
Alas! I do know the ecstasy
that is to be locked in a kiss
But, my world is old and boring
and my heart is a cold-blue mess
You shall at once recall your last free evening
and confess unto us, the shade of thy dress
When, who came closer unto you in the night
in his body of the eternal bliss?
When the candle melts and aflame is the home
and what of thy darling, my only miss?
Through thy smile a miracle I did bear witness
But, today is yet to be tonight, yes, indeed, time still there is
I speak the tongue of the fallen ones; feel my person’s pain
I warm the language that you understand; why else, but to be counted amongst thy handmaidens
I am a stranger in my own homeland; the son of the terminal yawp for Kashmir
I trust that thee is indeed in love with I, yet, pity the blood that spits in my veins
Even the breathe that I entertain follows no recourse
The law out here, states; Oh! My murderer, God bless!
I remain divided betwixt my peers, and thus, my Soul is a worthless prostitute
Will they ever recall that I always light my own cigarettes?
Love is beyond composure, truly, love is the each infinity
Sometimes, when I am more than alone; I wonder why is all of this?
Call it the derangement of my youth; name it, my final wish or desire
For, I live in the land where the calamity never forgets to befall upon us
My eyes complain to my face, “Bow down in the praise of thy Lord”
My broken heart remembers what it was like to finish the daily five obligatory prayers
And why will I ever admit to being myself in your presence?
The world is the same old story, my dearest; away run the days
I am required on the cross, excusez moi, for, I must withdraw
I must leave to be where I am needed the most; in the company of all the dead Poets.
