The Stars in Your Eyes

you look at me with stars in your eyes.

(i hope the sun never rises)

what am i to do then,

when the cloak falls and scars peak,

when silence screams and tears leak,

when you see through my puny act?

what am i to do then,

when the stars burn out—

when my betrayal digs a darkness

through those once starry eyes?

i do not mean to deceive you so

to put on a mask and shine.

but i'm afraid the mask shall never fall

for if it did, the day would arise.

you look at me with stars in your eyes

and the day outshines them far too well

i am nothing without those tiny stars

so i pray the sun never comes.
