The Sound of Silence

By Aastha Gupta

You know the best part about music?

It gives you an escape-

an escape from people,

from surroundings,

from constant opinions.

It offers you a reason- without needing one- to zone out.

It offers you a quiet excuse to withdraw,

from those who question your silence.

It lets you think on your own,

to simply sit with your emotions,

without the pressure to explain or share them.

I wish more people understood

that this kind of silence does not always need AirPods.

I wish they slowed down.

I wish they realized that not every moment needs commentary-

and sometimes a person just needs space.

I believe music is that space-

a silent permission in a noisy world.

And even though I love music,

sometimes I wish humans understood other humans better-

just let others be,

without judgement,

because judgement and unsolicited opinions,

can truly wear down the human heart-

a heart that only longs for love,

solace,

and comfort.

You put into words what most people feel but never say out loud. And that just makes it so comforting to read this.
