The Soul's Plea
By Parvati Uppala
The soul humbly whispered to God
To grant it new body as this one is flawed
A better one to house what it truly is
A body in sync with soul’s melodies
Its knees give up when climbing stairs
Its back is a map of grief for pain it bears
Its stomach, with acid, turns picnic to dread
Its eyes with sight, make vibrant colors dead
A restless mind that cannot be tamed
The focus drifts which cannot be aimed
The character is bound in a shadowed design
Greed, anger, envy, sloth, selfishness entwine
God replied, no body is perfect or free of flaws
Since limits and boundaries are nature’s laws
The soul’s real role is to guide and to mold
A new one is entrusted when old’s story is told
Know well, within the body you wear
Resides the mind, your partner to share
When the mind and soul fall out of accord
The body decides whose will should be stored
One may not always win, for victories don’t count
Life is weighed by lessons learned, seeds that mount
The soul’s gentle plea now faded into the past
It accepted life’s way, vowed to flow steadfast
