The Silent Scream
By Vasudha Tripathi
A tear did shed
From the pain to bear
My soul did cry
But none could hear
A shriek of peril
In the flame of fire
None could stop
My screeches grew higher
In that hour
I screamed and struggled
But the evil’s villainy
In death’s embrace, I snuggled
A shriek that could awake
Shock and despair
My heart did break but
None could repair
The flowing wind
cold with threat
caressed my corpse
in blood and sweat
My body was found
Still and dead
Beseeching justice
Allegations, it dread
“What she wore ?”
The question arises
“Her clothes provoked him”
The criminal disguises
The victim now,
A guilty accused
The testimony of my crime
The clothes I used...
The conclusion arrived,
The incident forgotten
The felony thrived,
My body’s rotten
My sobs held
no longer true
The wound beneath justice
vastly grew
My pyre beheld
Trauma and shiver
While the orange burned
my wronged cover
The sun shone
unwilling to bear
the atrocities on the body
of a soul so dear
When forced to shine
He hid in shame
Compared to human wildness
Bears appear tame
I left the world
The devils happily dwell
What I worshipped as my home,
Turned out to be a camouflaged hell!
My soul would walk
Sobbing and cold
my desires burn’t
No hope to hold
Soon another soul leaves the graveyard of justice and respect
The loop of false blaming in action
the sinner’s misdeed to neglect.
This time ,He was the one
She loved
An unforeseen gift
From her beloved
The black of this demon
Polished in white
Buries his sins
Depicting a man upright
His fake demeanour had once,
Brought rain to the drought of her heart
And now that rain floods
Ripping her soul apart
She would ask herself
“What was my fault ?”
For the kindness offered
Her reward assault ?
In Dvapara yug, once a saree undraped,
Those people received nothing but death ahead.
But now, when the torture pierces her heart and dress,
Humanity blames her and ignores the blood that shed.
The heaven also cried
On humanity’s deed
The teachings of Geeta,Bible,Quran
Failed indeed
An angel lost
In the ocean of pain
The monster walked
In the melody of rain
“Sadly, I was born a girl
thus,It was my fate
To attract the devils
I am their bait”
“Why?” she asks
“Why?” she complains
Why was I born a girl?
To suffer the restrictions, assaults
and monthly pains.
A fear that arises
In every woman’s heart
“Will I be the next ?”
For my dreams to depart?
We call it “Mother” India,
We call it “Mother” Earth,
Yet we failed to save the gender
The one that gave us birth.
