The Silence Between

Have you ever heard silence breathe?
It’s the weight that settles at dusk,
the hum of a room afterward is spent,
a murmur left in the pulse of walls.
It isn’t empty; it holds what we leave,
pieces of things we meant to say—
fragments of laughter caught in echoes,
and questions that linger, unanswered.
In this quiet, I find the self I’d misplaced,
the parts buried beneath louder days,
waiting in shadows for stillness to settle,
for space to remember what I had forgotten.
Here, the silence speaks in gentle ways,
not in sound, but in warmth, steady and soft,
like an old friend who knows what’s lost
and offers only presence in return.
And so, I sit, breathe, and listen,
as the silence fills what’s hollow inside,
teaching me that in stillness, we become whole,
and the quiet is where truth resides.
