The Seven Deadly Sins
By Lakshmi Yasheca Sanka
This generation breathes lust—
lust here, lust there, lust everywhere.
When you gave in to it,
lust became my greatest headache.
Then came envy.
You were jealous of me liking others—
but what gave you the right
to chain the life that was mine
You wrapped me in wrath,
butchered my trust like slaughtered
cattle,
pressed your hand against my breath
until I choked on silence.
You had pride,
Which was useless,
you couldn’t protect the girl
who trusted your words.
If you were a sloth,
Why did you accept a race
against a cheetah,
when she’s not on your check.
You never fed a soul drowning in gluttony.
Your ego was your only feast,
and in your dictionary,
there existed no word called humanity.
And greed—
the sin I’ll never forget.
You wanted only your friends,
and left behind the one
who truly loved you.
