He burned and burned
For her and for him, for others all his life
But never for himself, he burned
He burned and shined, all night all day
He shined brighter and brighter
To light them very far away
Something ought to burn to shine
As the shine, the fire, the flame, the light,
Follows when 'tis burning bright
But somewhere in the process
He didn't mind the bounds, he burned
Far longer than he could have, alas!
Nothing more than dying embers, ebbed away,
The glow, the shine, the warmth, the light
Fading, alone he was left behind
They longed for his flames, his light, his shine
The warmth not forgotten, the glow remembered,
Forever lost what was once, upon them accorded
