“The Season She Chose to Be”

A soul unremembered, she wished to remain,

A whisper with little presence within thy days;

A reason unknown even unto herself,

A quiet heart that questioned its own worth.

Yet perhaps that doubt was but a phantom veil,

For she was as genuine as dawn’s first light-

Only, mayhap, thou didst forget to tend the flame

That once warmed the chambers of her being.

For though she was a season,

Her tenderness was no fleeting illusion;

Her care was an honestum offering,

A warmth untainted by guile or artifice.

She would have been the hearth in winter’s wrath,

The refuge, the home, the gentle fire

Where weary souls might seek their solace.

Yet in a moment’s breath,

Her warmth became a forgotten ember-

And so the flame, unattended, perished.

She refuses now to dwell within thy memory,

Not as a wound, nor as a sweetness preserved;

For she desires thee to find the eternal hearth-

The one whose fire was never meant to fade.

Not her seasonal glow,

But a warmth destined to remain.

Thus she leaves no residue behind:

Neither bitter nor honeyed,

Neither sorrow nor delight,

Neither frost nor flame.

Only a quiet passing-

A season once lived,

And gracefully gone.
