The Remnants
By Bismay Rath
Born into a world
With despair and decadence abound,
One with devils framed as humans,
One with humble souls in torment all around.
In such an earth, I was blessed to be,
To bless others' smiles, a delightful spree.
That's what I was taught, by father, mother,
And all who brought me hope
In this distorted realm, and granted my lips
A sprightly decree.
'Twas all expected, that I would earn the
Devils' awe,
Who tore my trust apart,
And while watching me agonize, laughed.
To forgive I was taught, and so I did.
Left them in peace, never again to meet.
The ones who saved my self,
Were my own,
Who never left, despite how bad the world groaned.
And they still remain,
The ones who helped me retain
My name, my nature and all
That makes me who I am.
The kindness that I hold,
Nurtured by this cruel world,
Helps me trace the fragments
Of hope, and virtues untold.
They are what enhance
The beauty of this world,
Provide me with a chance-
One to trust again, no pretenses to spare.
With that set, come the people I met,
The one who holds my heart, and protects it,
Ones who know my truth, and accept it,
And a child- lone and lost, who elevates it.
Hence, as things now hold,
None could make me cry,
For the world bolsters me now,
Not one day feels dry.
The colours overflow,
More than I can express.
As I watch the dusky glow,
The new dawn hollers to expect.
