The Rat Race

Another day gone by, books unopened,

Already burnt out, my future uncertain,

Procrastination at an all time high,

Life’s moving  fast, everything’s so dry.

I don’t understand what’s going on.

I promise I’ll wake up early at dawn,

to start the preparation for the rat race.

Selling my soul, day by day,

Now a shell of who I was,

It’s only 2 years, 2 years of strife.

2 years to something that can’t promise me life.

It’s sucking my life like a parasite, one driven by spite,

One that seems like it’s here to end me, one that actually might.

10 lakh people doing the same thing as me,

10 lakh people that are better than I could ever be.

10 lakh people are stuck in this rat race.

10 lakh people that I'm going to have to face.

8 hours a day in school,

Another 4 at a different one.

I’m supposed to study 5 hours more.

So I can outdo what the toppers have done.

I was never built for this,

Never built for all this struggle.

I would give any amount of money to go back to the time,

Where my only thoughts were of wizards and muggles,

Only thinking of the childhood joys,

But I guess I have no choice.

Because I have 10 lakh people doing the same thing as me,

10 lakh people that are better than I could ever be.

10 lakh people are stuck in this rat race.

10 lakh people that I'm going to have to face.
