The Rain and the Earth

The rain knocks

On the Earth's cemented gate

Pleading to be let in

Apologising for being late

He tries to placate her

But unfortunately, to no avail

She lets him rot outside

Whilst he pours down hail

An hour goes by

Then a week

Then a month or two

When the Earth swallows her anger

And allows the rain through

He pleads with his wife

To forgive him at last

"Let bygones be bygones" he says

"And let the past remain in the past"

She agrees to do so

But only at one cost

"If you are late next time" she threatens,

"Then you can get lost"

He agrees with a laugh

And the both embrace

The storm comes to a halt

And with the Earth, the rain stays
