About the Work

"The poisoned heart" employs vivid imagery and a somber tone to explore themes of toxicity and human interaction. The poem is a reflection on how life's challenges and interpersonal relationships can lead to a metaphorical poisoning of the heart. Through rhythmic verses and metaphorical language, it examines the inherent nature of humans to spread venom through their actions, often unknowingly, thereby perpetuating a cycle of emotional harm.

The poisoned heart

Contamination is something that comes easy to one’s heart

For toxicity seeps in where it has been torn apart

We are all served the deadly nightshade called life

And with it we receive the arsenic of strife

Our hearts are poisoned by that of others

Little gifts from those meant to be our sisters and brothers

Humans are very venomous creatures

Who spit their toxins through smiling features

We all slip our pretty potions and envious elixirs to our fellow man

It is in our nature so one needn’t plan

It is as automatic as one taking breath

Yet all we tend to exhale is death

Vile venom is all that we spew

But only if we all knew

This acidic attack

Always comes to burn us back

For some the venom they serve tastes sweet

Yet to the soul this is a great defeat

We hurt others part by part

So is the habit of the poisoned heart
