The Pilgrim’s Ghost
In the haze of the fog
I travel alone
Wandering roads
In search of my home.
With a staff and a bag
With cheese and stale bread
And a hood overhead
I wander ahead.
On my way through a village
With a crowded square
Where always a crowd
Screaming aloud.
Where always a crowd
Pointing out
Which way is the right way out.
As I fumble through crowd
On my way out
Some, I feel, point
The right way out,
Some pushing too hard
To their way out.
At the end of the day
It is my own way out
It is my own way home.
Only I will find out
If the way I am going
Is the right way home.
