The Patterns In The Sky

By Dr Avlokita Sharma

Ten-year-old Nina said, "Look mom, the sky looks so beautiful." It was one of those depressing mornings in January. Nina and Neelam were relaxing in their farmhouse courtyard. Hesitantly, Neelam raised her gaze from the book she was reading upwards to the sky. She was overcome with a strange emotion rather than delight. She froze, unsure of how to proceed. Neelam had two very unfortunate outcomes when the sky burst into a similar riot of color. She was aware that it was more than just a typical meteorological occurrence; it was also a signal, a warning, a message. After gathering her thoughts, Neelam quickly got up and grabbed her belongings, sprinting to the kitchen with Nina trailing behind. She had faith in her mother. Through the maze of doors, mud walls and intense smell of reagents, they both reached the hideout- the bunker. Neelam put her hand on the metal door's biometric sensor. With a creek, the thick metal door opened. Nin continued to pose questions, but Neelam does not seem to be listening. When Nina saw the N2 machine, she gasped. Although it was little more than a resting pod, but was fully stocked with food, water, medicines even literature.

Neelam assisted Nina with her suit. She could feel them approaching.  Nina needed to be saved. Nina entered the suit and began pressing buttons and punching keys by instinct. N2 began to whirr as it prepared for the command. As it has done for the past 150 years, N2, the teleport device, would aid in their escape. High above the property, the clouds of dense smoke reorganized to form the words "GOT YOU".

N2 had successfully carried out the task of evacuating the most important passengers one more time.
