The Painter

Black, my windowsills coloured,

erased to crimson at the faintest touch.

For you, I am a virgin canvas,

awaiting the stains of your affection.

If you will, paint my soul with yours,

praise my being with each stroke.

Where we might entwine in ivory,

long after our vessels are left blank.

Without an altar, I vow still -

until death collects its companions.

My windowsills now darkest,

while devotion rusts in solitude.

As my youth becomes diminished,

return me to the brush of my Painter.

To shape me into a masterpiece,

and steal my acrylic for his canvas.

Finally, bury the muse at his feet,

where He still will not see.
