The Pain of Knowing

Words as sharp as knives,

Stares as dark as night.

Love and deception,

Caresses and fights.

Do you ever wonder,

If life is a twisted game?

A battle of restraint,

A never-ending war to see,

Who really loses it first?

Right from the beginning,

Maybe none of us were sane

Maybe the question is,

Who comes out the least insane.

Maybe death is home,

A soothing place to retire

From the tiring play of life.

Is everything free will?

Or is it all pre-destined?

Maybe we'll never know,

Maybe that's how it's supposed to be.

For, sometimes, knowledge

Can hurt more than it heals.
