The Old Oak

There is an old Oak which stands tall

At the base of a river, like a pall.

The damp moss by her roots

Are flattened by my boots.

Her outstretched branches

Are twined netting for catches.

Her lime leaves let the dews

Cascade in tufts to erase the tension of dues.

As the floating ghost of a parade

Lingers in the aftermath of my crusade.

The tide laps against her grassy shore,

The way they did in the days of yore.

The clear, cool breeze blew

The fresh scent of mildew,

To waft over the waters still streams,

So that with peace, it teems.

The phantom of new saplings

Blossom without the trampling’s;

Grow in the manner of life,

Perpetually undisturbed by strife.
