The Night
By Sharon John
As I sit here on the porch,
With the night’s gentle breeze ruffling my hair,
I hear the grasshoppers singing,
Little frogs chirping and hopping around.
I stand up and walk further away from the porch,
Wanting to get more of the night into me.
I look up at the glittery sky,
I’m filled with happiness.
The jasmines have bloomed,
And the night is filled with its fragrance,
I breathe in the enchanting smell.
I hear a squirrel scrambling up a tree
Dropping chickoo fruits around me.
Night birds flying around,
Probably off with their nocturnal chores
I walk around the flowers in the garden
The rose flower has lost its petals in the rain.
An evergreen plant stands alone,
Near the porch, gay and sound.
I hear the sound of the brooke,
Flowing gracefully nearby.
I go further to stand by the brooke,
I see small fish playing around,
With the gentle current, I hear
The flutter of wings and look up to see a bat,
Fly right over my head.
The night scenes were so beautiful,
That I wanted to stand there,
The whole night and watch,
All the nocturnal beings around me.
I sat there not realizing,
That, time was flying by,
As a silent listener of the Nature.
