The Moon's Affair

The Moon had an affair with the Sun,

the Earth was heartbroken of course,

though she knew she was never the one.

It hurt to hear the Stars whisper about her lover with someone else.

The Moon was deeply in love with the Daystar,

And he watched in complete awe 

as she lit up all his most favourite things.

He lost to her beauty and allowed her to stay risen past nighttime.

The Moon was a player, and everybody knew it.

For even in their gossip, the Stars carried heavy hearts

as they reminisced of the times the Moon belonged to them,

and how they danced in the sky, when the Earth was asleep.

But the Moon was so beautiful,

He almost had a warrant to do the things he did,

and the poets would still write only about his craters and seas,

but never of his secrets.

Nebulas and galaxies were jealous of the orange star,

For even though the Moon had the Earth before he had anyone else,

And he would be lonely in a night without Stars,

He chose the Sun,

For he could simply not shine without her.

And the Earth would go on to weep

for millenias to come,

because even her own artists,

would paint the Moon's face

with the Sun.
