The Mighty Pen
By Parvati Uppala
A mighty pen once gloriously proved
For words of hatred, it can’t be moved
It speaks the voice of hope and love
Its sole purpose, blessed from above
When I forced ink to flow with fury on page
It resisted and whispered bounds to engage
I screamed at it, demanding it obey me
Nib spoke in verse, muzzling my violent spree
I tried to scribble vicious rumors
But it rebelled, replaced with humors
I coerced it to poison a noble name
It morphed fake words to lasting fame
A threat was transformed into a confession
A curse was altered to a prayer’s expression
Regardless of my cruel intentions
It bent them all to kind reflections
It foiled my scheme and pernicious motive
Shaped content I developed into thing positive
It has a will of its own that can’t be broken
If ink has to spill, only truth will be written
I surrendered myself once I perceived its role
That I have to obey, since it guides my soul
From then, I wrote of lanterns to bless
Shaping my lines for hearts in distress
