THE MATTERHORN

In the birth pains of a thunderous collision

I was born, reaching for the heavens

Years of glacial erosion carved my shape

I am a King, ruler of my domain

Marvelling at my indestructability

Captivated by my raw beauty

Humanity attempted to conquer me

I unleashed my weapons of destruction

Snow storms of immensity

Dangerous slippery ice

Freezing glacial winds howling their wrath

Peeling layers of puckered flesh

Litter the pathways of death

Faces frozen for eternity

Waging war against mere men

I did not care for humanity

Invading my kingdom

At great sacrifice, few succeeded in their quest

I was amused by their tenacity

Many failed miserably

Their bodies lie hidden within my realm

Forgotten over time

Remarkable and beautiful

I stand alone, proud of my realm
