The Land That Time Forgot
By Anshuman Das
You’ve found yourself in the Land that Time Forgot.
It’s an endless race for property and success.
You find yourself away from humanity, all alone.
This land’s vast expanse you cannot see, you cannot see.
Time has left this place, forgotten it. And whatever remains
Seems to be melting away.
The lonely clocks have forgotten their purpose, they have abandoned
Their post.
You walk on the Land That Time Forgot and no footsteps do you hear.
You try to speak, but all you hear is muffled drumming.
It has consumed you, you’re lost, you cannot see humanity anymore,
All you see is the Land that Time Forgot, and the lonely clocks’ melting hands,
And the never ending horizon.
The ants seem familiar, they seem to beckon you to join them.
The sea, the mountains all seem like mirrors reflecting the suffering in your
Expensive suit, your polished shoes and your rat brain.
Look where you are: lost, stranded forever in the Land that Time Forgot.
The race will never stop because Time is oblivious to it.
That is why you find yourself in this predicament, in the Land that Time Forgot.
Go look at your reflection in the scornful water, you see not yourself but a feeble rat.
You scream but all you hear is a soft drumming, the water absorbing all possible sound.
The grey scornful water makes your suit look bleak, your knees are weak. You’re buckling under pressure and your conscience is on its knees begging you to stop.
An excruciating pain in your rat brain.
The elevator doors open and Kenny G is beckoning you to leave his dwelling.
Your boss is waiting, your co-worker is waiting, the Land that Time Forgot still persists,
temporarily suppressed, deep within your rat brain, waiting to catch you by the hip again.
