The Keys of Memory.
By Jacob Thomas
A tear falls down my face,
Looking back at all my memories.
The different roles each person played
Like a piano has its keys.
All unique, all different
All not bearing the same sentiment.
Some helped me, some hated me
But that’s just life, isn't it?
It’s not guaranteed it’ll all be okay,
People only do as much as they see fit.
It’s hard knowing that I can’t see everyone once more,
It hurts deep in my heart, down to the very core.
As time goes on, you learn to love less.
After all it’s a battlefield, always leaving a bloody mess.
But out of that arises the true ones, the diamonds in the rough
The ones you could always be with, you could never have enough.
You appreciate them more after it’s all over,
For making your life pass a little less slower.
To the reader, reading this behind your phone screen,
You’d know, you’d know exactly what I mean.
The feeling you get when they laugh or cry,
It impacts you deep in your soul.
You don’t realise it but you’re healing them,
You make them stay for more.
The feelings received, were not always reciprocated
But you stayed, setting you apart from those people loved or hated.
A special friend, made for eternity.
A bond that does not bind but sets you free.
