The Journey Of The Lost Wallet
By Dr Pratiksha Kamath
I was a yellow wallet with a beautiful blue flower on me. Definitely I was my owner Isha’s favourite wallet. One day when she was taking me with her to school she dropped me off in the busy market where we had gone to purchase her a book. I cried for help but how would she even hear me ? She must be still missing me!! I guess she had also Come in search of me!! But I was long gone.
After I got dropped, a robber found me, he put me in his stinky pants. I wonder when was the last time he took a bath? I missed Isha’s bag which smelt of lavender. And now here I am in a stinky dark pocket. He took me to a secluded place and pulled open my zip. Ouch!! It was very painful. He put all his fingers inside me and pulled out all the money. And just dropped me on a muddy ground . I was all clean, now I had almost started looking brown.
I thought I would be left there peacefully but just then a dirty brown dog came and started sniffing at me. His saliva was falling on me. Oh god!! I didn’t like that slimy thing all over me. But that was not the end!! He held me with his mouth and god knows where I was going now?
After some distance he dropped me, I thought he was going to leave me alone but he got his kid and now his kid was using me as his toy . Oh god!! I miss home! I miss how Isha looked after me!!
The puppy pulled out my blue flower ! Oh it was painful and now I was left all dirty, soaked in saliva and ugly .
This was not enough and suddenly it started raining. I got all the more drenched. Soon I was filled in a puddle of dirty water. I stayed there the whole night. I was wondering will Isha still love me, now I’m just a dirty torn wallet. The next morning the water had slightly dried.
I rested there quietly, not long enough some school boys started playing with me by kicking me. I was in pain. I longed to go back home, back to Isha’s bag. They kicked me till we reached a busy area filled with crowds of people. And now it was even worse, people were stamping me, cars and bikes were going all over me, and some old guy spat his tobacco on me! From brown now I had spots of red on me.
I had given up on any hope of finding love. By now I had learnt that I was only valued for the money I carried. As soon as I had no money left in me the humans didn’t even bother to pick me up. I felt worthless, I missed Isha as she loved me even when I had no money in me for her. Millions of people around me but each one threw me back when they found I had no money. Is my value only so much ?
I was very sad looking at all this and wished I was torn into pieces, just then a soft hand picked me up and turned me around. God is great! It was Isha. Now I was worried whether she would accept me for how horrible I looked. She held me in her hand and shouted out to her mom “ look here I found my favourite wallet”. Her mom too didn’t like me and suggested she drop me. But Isha didn’t, she told her mom I was her favourite. Her Mom convinced her a lot that she will get her a similar wallet from the nearby shop.
I was worried, Isha was the only one who loved me and if she dropped me too, I would be broken. Her mom tried to take her away. Now I knew, I have no one left. Just then Isha picked me up, sneaked me into her bag and took me. I was on cloud nine. I was very happy and I felt very safe.
“ I learnt at that moment that love is something which does not see appearance or any materialistic things. It’s something which comes from within, which is selfless. If it’s not selfless it’s not true love” and definitely no one is worthless in this world we all need someone who sees the worth in us, for we are all sent for a purpose on this earth.
She took me home and gave me a good bath. Now I stay in her bag all the time. And she takes very good care not to drop me again.
