The Journey
By Saptarshi Debnath

I had rode along the daring waves,
Braving the storms
For a long millennium
Waiting for the storm to subside
Sending Noah's dove in search of land
Or a figment of peace
Whichever it lands first upon.
The storms never did die down,
The mind's eye competing
Shamelessly
With the world outside,
Outshining in its darkness.
I feel tired,my hands slipping
From the wheel of time,
That I try too hard to keep control of.
Only to fail,in the face of adversity.
A strange melancholy grips me,
One that is firm yet ephemeral.
It covers my being in a vice like hold.
One which I can't escape from.
I can't take in this abruptly
Insidious intrusion anymore.
I long for the healing touch
Of a time tested yet novel actor.
For it is imperative to me,
A soul long lost in misery
To find some Solace
In conformity.
I look out of the window
To find,
The darkness dissipating as the new feeling envelops me
This feeling is so safe ,
A risk free reward for a life led well.
The days pass by,
Melancholia doesn't haunt me anymore.
Nor does ecstasy,
The thrill of the unknown.
I am perfectly satisfied
In the safety of my walls.
A sanatorium built for me
By my free will.
A desire to surrender it
Was what I needed all along.
Another millennium passes by,
I have traded my storm .
For the monotony of a thousand identical nights.
I am at peace finally.
My heart beats at a predetermined rhythm ..
A lifetime of mediocrity
Waiting for the ship to sail
Sometimes by my window,
Another turbulent soul passes by,
I look at them with pity
And I dare say,envy.
The storm inside me still brews on,
Waiting to break out
Destroying the mold of docility
And be free.
