The Hellebore's Bane

By Tanushree Kar

The penumbra of the mauve Hellebore,

called to me from a distance.

I begged; not to turn back

I begged; to slaughter the feelings commenced.

The Hellebore didn't shed a tear -

In the flesh, it wasn't aware

of the capillaries rupturing in me.

The day after, I looked in the mirror

Remorse crept in for the sin I did.

My reflection queried

"Wicked, evil, sinful, viced "

Tears brimming on my face.

I thought through

a thought of agony

"Though I have; lived as yet

I die incessantly always.

Yearning still for the Hellebore's poison

Entangled in its lethal maze."
