The Ghosts in My Mind

I'd fight for my rights

I'd fight for my people I'm sure

But how do I end this internal war

Eating me up from within

As if I've committed a sin

Maybe it's because I try too hard

But people play me

Like I'm nothing but a card

Or maybe it's because

I didn't care at all

For people

who wouldn't even catch me if I fall

Maybe it's because I speak my mind

Or maybe because

The right words are hard to find

I don't know

if it's because of the smile or the tears

Or the haunting thoughts

I hope nobody hears

Maybe it's because

I want to be the best

Or maybe because I can't outshine the rest

Maybe it's because I try to be kind

But I always let the devils win

That live inside my mind

Maybe it's because I'm not very pretty

Or that I know it's all out of pity,

The love, the smiles and all the compliments

As if I don't know

How the story ends

But I know one day

I'll win this war

Even if it's the day

That I'm no more
