The Generation Jones vs Gen Z

Moments for both lost behind the screen

The table is set, plates yet to come

Foods are on their way, but they don’t care.

Fingers dance, screens softly glow,

Lost in the world they only know.

No words exchanged, no glances meet,

Silent taps at the keys take them away from their seat.

The waiter’s footsteps, the chatter near,

The laughter around which they barely hear.

Generation Jones watches and is trying their best

To match the footsteps of Gen Z unlike the rest.

The Instagram reels and the followers around,

Matters more to both than the table talk round.

Once, we would talk, we would laugh, we share,

A little of our lives, our joys, and things we care.

Lunches and dinners, when are away from home,

Were like little celebrations of their own.

We dressed with care, we cherished the day,

Looking forward to dining out along the way.

We watched other families, wondering why

They had gathered together, what made them smile.

Those little guesses and those moments of fun,

Made the waiting worthwhile for everyone.

We ordered and we waited for food,

We never felt bored till they serve the food.

Now we sit at the table and order our food,

Yet something has changed in our ways and mood.

We look up from our mobiles, not to look around,

But to capture the dish served around.

The reels we create for Instagram to see

Tell the world where we are, but not what we see.

We frame every moment, we choose every scene,

Yet miss the warm moments unfolding between.

The minutes pass by, and the food arrives,

But behind mobile screen they both dive.

We eat with our eyes on the likes of reels display,

As conversations and laughter quietly fades away.

We hardly notice the flavours we taste,

Nor the precious moments we allow to go to waste.

The people beside us, the love that is near,

Are lost in the glow of a screen we hold dear.

And perhaps, one day, when we look back and see,

We'll long for those meals when we sat carefree.

For the food we may forget, and the pictures will fade,

But the warmth of togetherness is the memory we crave.

So let us look up, let our eyes meet again,

Let laughter return like the first rain.

For no picture can hold what the heart holds within,

And not let screen replacing the warmth of a human grin.

We plan the outings to make memories, yet missed what they means

For the moments we truly lived were lost for both behind the screens.
