The Games We Play

The nights we want to stay awake

The days we want to stretch

The ends we want to erase

The things we want to put an end to

The depths we want to see

The fears we want to conquer

The cries we want them to hear

The joy we want them to share

The NOs we want to turn to Yes

The wrongs we want to turn to right

The turns we never took in life

The roads we never returned from

The lies we never told them

The truths we never understood

The times we did not yield

The times we gave in when we shouldn’t have

The people we hurt ever so easily

The people we could never bring to hurt

The ends we went to wait for them

The two minutes we decided not to spend

The cracks on the surface we overlooked

The people with cracks we gave up on

The nights we spent thinking about them

The funerals we decided to skip

The art we decided to appreciate

The word we used to crush a spirit

The food we decided to call tasty

The cook we decided to ridicule

The friend who got bullied because he was too close

The friend who got away because no one cared

The money we spent on things we didn’t need

The loan we decided not to give

The times we looked up and thanked god

The times we asked are you even there

The moment we decided we are in love

The years we spent in cold hatred

The house we live in doesn’t have space

The home where no one mentioned space

The things we want to say on our deathbeds

The living we don’t care to say enough

The games we play with the others,

While we live in a house of mirrors
