The Game

Words spoken with measured diplomacy,

A bunch of equations to be balanced perfectly.

Feelings held back, play casual, hard-to-get,

If you fall too soon, they said, you’ll only regret.

Utterly stoic, how long should you maintain?

And they said, that’s how you play the game.

Politically correct topics in politically correct tones,

Think only with your brains and not your hormones.

No leaps of faith, only calculated moves,

Careful hints, careful comments and everybody approves.

Emotions suppressed until none remain,

And they said, that’s how you play the game.
