The Flower Crone

Look at what you’ve done to her, there as she lies. As red her petals are as mine in her young demise.

What I don’t understand, how this came to be, is the audacity of you to take what you’ve stolen from me. Wrapped around her like a vine — a façade you designed — was it to keep the sickness steady… the image refined?

But then anger forced you to draw a line, to cross out any hope — a chance at more time. Instead you lied and deceived and took what was mine. Mine as a seed, what I moved throughout weeds. You who was not there as we navigated seas. Not there as she bore, thrice, her very own. You just eyed her over closely, mere meat on a bone.

Your hands were not gentle, your morals not correct. You took and took and took, to force all that you could get.

Kept her dependent, your soil in her lungs. All tendrils look like roots when desperation flicks its tongue.

Pale purple was once the colour of her bloom, a darker shade than childhood — was it altered by her gloom? You let her linger limply like bees caught in a breeze. You brought her deeper to your level, pathetic, on your knees.

A coward’s way you took that day… blind from behind. What thought I ponder still took hold your twisted mind. Did you think that you were just? Privileged to decide… what could take and what could stay, who could live and die.

I see them flocking, outside now, from here in my garden bed. Black and blues surrounding red, my rose’s bud, dead. Crows behold, landing soon, the garden far away. My love and grief buried beneath will settle once, to stay.

A ‘fall’ you call, to cover your maul.

Do you even hear yourself? Feel the guilt as you drawl?

The birds hold another title… well known, they eye the garden closely, seeing keenly your false drone.

Eyes turn to catch them now, the truth within their numbers. You fail and flounder trying to scrub the panelling now stained umber. The more that you murmur, the further absurder the covers you try to pull over.

All to distract the simple fact of crows, often called a

murder.
