The Fiend Of Staccato
By Vedant Agrawal
In the far desolate corner of a shattered town, Staccato, stood a yurt in which dwelled Dr Hugo Stevenson, who by the grace of God was gifted with an extraordinary genius. Being a son of a local poor pawnbroker, Dr Hugo had witnessed the cruelty and callousness of the world and was himself a victim of this brutality that he deeply resented and yearned for vengeance. But, the true flame of revenge scintillated in his heart when some ruthless drunkards broke into his small abode for robbery and one of them inadvertently killed the beloved father of now-orphaned young Hugo rendering him a vagrant, unloved and uncharacteristically diabolical living corpse.
From the day of his father’s perverse demise, Hugo made the entire town of Staccato, a well maintained but filled with injustice town, his arch-nemesis, and declared that a dawn would come whence either he or this vicious place will perish. He drifted from library to library in the quest of marshalling knowledge from wherever and whatever he could; he was mocked and assaulted on myriad occasions, yet he carried on with his pursuit. Fortunately, he got a scholarship from the university of Staccato and vanished from the eyes of others. During his paid education, he studied physiology, anatomy and especially Biotechnology. After attaining a medical degree he retired to his old rusty yurt with his last known enunciation to the society,” I have found the secret of life ”.
Since the day he last entered his so-called haven, no one ever heard from him. As the time elapsed, the town of Staccato flourished and finally found peace and tranquillity; children began playing outside without the fear of an attack, and women received education with no one lecturing them about their position in society. Meanwhile Dr Hugo dug in graves at midnights, to find bones and other tissues that make a human, and with the intense desire of creating a monster like of Frankenstein but much worse and that worked by his command, he put all his effort and mind and after two years of intense labour he succeeded as, he saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open; he saw the fiend’s pale ghastly neck rotate and with an unbearably excruciating scream, he saw the the beast roar to life.
“Oh! The Horror”, ejaculated Dr Hugo. As soon as the heart of the monster started its engine, Dr Stevenson’s heart began palpitating, even though being the maker he could not withstand what a wreck was the creature, but after slowly summoning up courage he cried he was the creature’s maker and his only god, for that pray he must respect and follow Stevenson’s command. During the first few days of the beast’s birth, he was taught all kinds of information that were supposed to be instilled in his mind, including English, the truth of this dark world, how to circulate justice and wash old sins, etc but everything seemed to be worthless for him as he only loved bloodshed. One day when Clerval, Stevenson’s treasured friend came to pay a visit to him, when, by the glimmer of an incandescent candle the monster caught Clerval’s eye and impromptu pounded on the poor lad embedding his claws like nails in the man’s pure heart taking away his innocent soul. From that day he unleashed hell on the town, killing whoever crossed his path, burning whatever building he laid his sight on, and even killed his creator. Since then he gained the title of “The Fiend of Staccato''
