THE FALLEN LEAF

Autumn came and the leaves began to fall.

Soon the magnificent tree was departed from all.

Cold winds blew and the last green leaf

fell from the branch and joined the heap.

Crushed and crumpled, it remained on the ground,

with no hope of going back,

to where it was safe and sound.

Awaiting reunion,

the leaf lay dying.

Beneath its guardian,

it kept on sighing.

Then all of a sudden a crunch was heard.

No, it couldn’t have been help,

the prospect seemed absurd.

A little boy came and sped past the dell,

without even noticing the season’s exhale,

a man and his wife sat for a spell

their dog ran fast, wagging its tail

Yet there was no one to come to aid,

the leaf was sad, paler grew its shade.

Pain of separation was taken all in,

telling its grief, the leaf began mourning:

“Whatever happens, let it be,

O, brutal world! but you shall see,

Spring will bloom definitely,

to tie me back to my precious tree.”
