The Eternal Sleep

By Soundarya

A long eerie night. Silence creeping through every nook and corner of his humble abode. Bright flashes of thunders, the only source of momentary brightness; lightening up the pitch-black room.

Wind gushing through the opened windows. The ash-grey skies, the demilune crescent moon in its tender self, hiding amongst the cumulonimbus clouds that embedded the night skies. The steady droplets of rainwater cascading from slanted roofs down to the ground that nourished the bleak lands; some even forming dew-drops on the petals, leaves that defined a natural beauty of its own and the moist mud, now consisting of enough puddles for the kids to jump in and soak their garbs to the core.

Amid all these, there laid a body of a man on his bed covered with his own blood. The crimson red blood continuously dripping from the tip of a sharp, shining dagger he held. Red blotches splattered over the sheets; soft pillow covers shredded into pieces. The porcelain walls decorated with beautiful collages with the memories he spun together with his closed ones in these past few years, now patchy and cracked with broken frames and dried stains.

His pupils dilated; lips pressed together, forming a peaceful smile on his serene face. The tousled raven locks fallen in between over his closed eyes and glabella. The numerous scars etched on his soft yet gentle wrists which got overlapped with the fresh wounds. The silver pendant hanging down from his neck; the photograph inside it being the sole evidence of his drive to live, was peacefully amongst the stars from a long amount of time, wishing nothing but the best for him. The soul tangled in this abyss was finally free, embarking his journey across the distant universe in search for them once again, so he can sleep for eternity with them.

The eternal sleep that he wished from the angels above when looked at the pendant for the last time. The eternal sleep he oh-so wanted for to be granted and graced upon. The eternal sleep which reunites his soul with his soulmate.
