The Elite Excretion

By Priyansh Jaiprakash Singh

India is a country, where there is lack of civic sense among the people and generally, for this lack of civic sense, the illiteracy or general lifestyle of Indian is blamed. Civic sense means social ethics that is to be followed in public life, which includes being sensitive that, one’s act does not create trouble for other fellow beings, including environment and animals.

We Indians are very cautious to keep our homes clean, but we do not care about outside cleanliness i.e. our locality, society, area etc. However, there is one class, who is considered as exception to this Indian tendency and, it is called as “Elite class” of India. The elite class consists of upper middle class and rich people of India. They are considered as well educated, well behaved and known for its good standard of cleanliness. Due to their exposure to western lifestyle, they are assumed to have good civic sense and concern for fellow beings.

Despite their exposure and good learning even they are contributing to this mess of lack of civic sense through unique way and it is excretion in open by pet animals of this elite class. The owners of pets, especially dog takes them out for stroll in evening and morning and this pets excrete in gardens, footpaths, roads, society compound etc. and the same remains over there for whole day and in some cases for weeks and months.

In the year 2014, On 02nd October, The Prime Minister of India initiated “Swach Bharat Mission (Clean India Mission)”, under which it is was targeted to eliminate open defecation from India and make our country clean. Unfortunately it seems that, it is assumed, open defecation by pets is not covered in said mission or no one paid attention to it. The excretion of pets is no different from Humans and carries same health risk, but it is still rampant in our country.

In developed countries, when owner of pets take them out for stroll, they carry with them bag in which they collect the excretion of their pets and later on, properly dispose them of, but in our country, this practice is not followed. Though there might be exception to it and there will be people who do follow this practice, but generally this tendency is prevalent.

The people who defecate in open may not have toilet at their home, but here people with all resources are encouraging open defecation in public through their pets. The owners of pet take care of their every need, from bathing to food, but unfortunately, this aspect is ignored.

The blame can also be passed on other stray animals, but the elite class cannot overlook their own fault. The elite class comprises of intellectuals like big Businessman, top doctors, top lawyers, politicians, authors, professors, actors, actresses, etc. and is inspirations for many. The common public aspires to lead life like them and hence, this kind of practice sends wrong message into society. The Great initiative of Swachh Bharat will remain incomplete until this practice is stopped.

Hence, it is expected that, this educated class of our country will understand their mistake and come up with practice followed in developed countries or at least their own creative ideas.
