The effect you have on my heart

Bang, bang, bang

The sound of an anonymous visitor

knocking on the pericardium of my heart.

An unexpected guest asking to enter

a sacred space.

He enters at an unlikely time,

throwing me off course in the most glorious way.

Thump-da-dee-thump

He resets my SA-node

at an

unsteady pace.

Beating miles a millisecond,

incoherently.

LUP-DUP

The sound associated with your heartbeat.

Except, mine cannot be heard above the noise you have created in my mind.

Thoughts filled with moments I share with you.

Voices calling your name,

and my favourite the sound of yours echoing mine.

Whoosh

A heart performing its function,

the aorta circulating blood flow through the body.

But not mine,

for it beats to stay alive

and experience life beside you.

. . .

That is the sound of my heart

if you had to leave

and one of my cordae tendenae were to snap.

Doctors would claim it was a heart attack.

But, be assured that in reality, it was Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.

Knock, knock, knock

Here I am, offering the most fragile piece of me.

Caution,

please handle with care,

for you hold the string of my life.
