The Drop That Held The Sea

By Tvishaa Vijay

I was a drop of water living in the sea

Surrounded by many others just like me.

Through life browsed I, an apathetic wanderer

For there was a delight that swayed in my pathless way

I saw the birds dancing beneath the stars

‘Discover!’ I heard nature say

As I lay in the corner of a window pane

Oh! How life had suddenly become a customary pain

overworked and tired I lay there powerless

surging through me, an immeasurable strain

Watching directly through the glass slide

I could see my friends being frittered away

Although, I stood there unwavered

Feeling not even an ounce of pain

I wept under the endless sky

And the stars narrated their stories

Their echoes brought a joyous sound

And it felt as though I was dragged back to life

I experienced might and power

But that was just in my view

I dreamt of clashing with the disorderly flames

But that victory could never be true

And then the cruel winds swept me across

And the tides clinged washing me in its own water

It clung- gripping relentlessly.

“Mercy!”, I begged hoping for one more day

And soon it shattered me into parts on its way

Encompassed in the same wild tides, my companions weathered

Time unwrapped the pity I felt, for the comfort I didn't lend

“How long will I feel so empty, will this heartache ever end?

“ ‘Smile– for this is the way of life’ the misty skies echoed,

‘Hold on!, Until we meet in heaven, my friend’ ”
