The Devil and The Angel

By Mehana Agnihotri

For the world?

She is innocence incarnate

A pretty lamb

All pure & white

But for him?

She becomes sin

Wrapped ever so perfectly

In the finest silk

She is a siren

Her mere presence

Making him forget

How to breathe

& how to live without her

For the world?

He is cruel & cold

A master of his emotions

& always in control

But for her?

He becomes the greatest devotee

Of the God he never had faith in

He starts to believe in goodness

With which he had always

Played a losing game of chase

He has unlocked the emotions

That have been trapped

In a cold black box

Somewhere inside him

He is a devil

She is an angel

He is the broken puzzle

Meant for her to fix

& she is the confusing riddle

He is meant to solve

They complete each other

In a way that doesn't make sense

But at the same time, does

When you look at it

From a closer distance

It's them against the world

The world that doesn't accept them

But they couldn't care less
